mac floppyemu - unreadable disks

Finally got my http://www.bigmessowires.com/2012/12/15/build-your-own-floppy-emu/ assembled; menu works, but the Mac (IIci and IIx) always report that the disk images are unreadable, and offer to initialize them
Has anyone else (bbraun) you into something like this? Possible I flubbed something, of course, but as far as I know, the only weird thing I did was rebuild the AVR software with the Release configuration after tweaking the LCD initialization values.

Solved! (responding to my own post).
I was using the floppyemu as an occasion to get some practice in with the hot air pencil. Upon closer examination, it looks like I applied FAAR too little solder paste on the CPLD and the AVR, and my best guess was an open or intermittent connection.
I just reworked the CPLD and AVR with my soldering iron and plenty of flux, and now the floppyemu works perfectly. Woot.

Nice, did you buy it as a kit or source the PCB yourself?

I originally ordered some PCBs and sent them out to a couple interested folks, and I think landonf ordered another batch. The ordering process is suuuper easy from seeed studio and dougg3, landonf, and I made a wiki of the parts necessary, along with links to the digikey parts:

What he said. I've got a batch of 10 PCBs that should be arriving this week -- I'll have some extras to share (unless I somehow managed to screw up the order).

They finally arrived. If anyone wants a PCB or two, just let me know.

Consider me interested too, if there's still time/inventory!
And more to the point, if anyone is willing to construct a FloppyEmu for me I'd be happy to pay a fair price for labor, parts etc.

Has anyone used a AVRISP mkII clone for programming? Is it not worth getting a clone? Since I am not certain I would use it much, I am thinking of saving some money on this part of the project.

I've used one for other projects, though not this project specifically. I can't think of any reason a clone wouldn't work for this.

I would get one too, but I am unsure how to program the CPLD. I dont know a thing about them. Nor FPGA for that matter..

Do you mean if you want to tweak the source code?
I wonder if anyone thinks it would be feasible to get it able to support formatting disks and 1.4MB disk images.

Would it somehow be possible, to have a software/driver solution, where the floppyemu could pick-up non-standard commands sent to the floppy port so that you could switch disk images or maybe even populate a GUI with a list of all the images available and select the image to open? This way you could mount the floppyemu internally with a bunch of floppy images without having to worry about having access to the buttons to choose the next image. You could also potentially omit some components (like the screen) to make the hardware cheaper. Just a thought...

I can think of a couple different directions this could go in, although I don't know how practical any of them would be. It's certainly possible, I think the problem is no one is really doing active work on the floppyemu at the moment AFAIK.
